April 17, 2007

The following is the agenda for the Salem Commission on Disabilities for April 17th, 2007:

OLD BUSINESS:
1.  Salem High School renovation:  Discussion on the update of the renovation and also to discuss an ongoing monthly meeting set by Jack Harris with the Mayor’s office at 3:00pm. Prior to the Commission’s meeting on this topic.

2.  Better late than never:  The Commission needs to send a letter to the Mass Transit Authority covering the snow plowing at Salem’s Depot.  The contracted snow removal firms seem to use handicap parkig units to store the plowed snow.  We need to construct a letter on our concerns and not take a DO NOTHING approach.

3.  Market Basket handicap parking:  Councillor Sosnowski has received a call from a constituent on handicap parking which is flooded during rain.  Also, abused handi parking by the non handicap.  Shall we practice our skills learned from the parking violation course a few years back??  It could be a good business.

NEW BUSINESS:
1.  A Commission budget?  The Mayor’s office has turned down a $10,000.00 request from the Commission for a budget.  Jack wants to take this public….

OTHER:

1.  Access Monitor Course:  The Mass Office on Disabilities and the Beverly Commission on Disabilities will co-sponsor the Access Monitor Course on May 16 and 17th from 9:00am to 4:00pm. Both days.  This event will be held at the Beverly Public Library.   Andrew has e-mailed a copy of the application to list members.  Please give Jack a yes or no to your attending.

2.  Request to City Council:  The Commission would like to increase the Commission members to 9 from 7 members.  This needs to be approved by the Councillors.  Dave Martell and Dave Moisen are our choices as additions.
